This project aims to promote community mental health with a multi-pronged approach. The first piece involves a locally-produced video that will highlight community strengths, including community stories, the surrounding natural environment, and the preventative services and supports available within Hinton. The second piece is a mental health and wellness campaign, with materials placed in popular places in the community, including the trail system. The messaging will focus on addressing stigma and encouraging mindfulness and self-reflection. Lastly, the third portion of the project involves mental health toolkits, which will be distributed through non-profit partners. The rationale behind this project is to showcase the community’s existing supports and assets to increase individual and collective resilience in relation to mental health.
Impact/Outcomes
The video project has been a way for us to draw out information on the untraditional ways we can seek support both individually and collectively as a community. The project has given our rural community an opportunity to be involved in conversations at a Provincial level and become part of the larger Rural Mental Health Network that spans across the province. It has put Hinton “on the map” in relation to what we have to offer and what we can do as a collective community.
