Special Area Rural Mental Health Committee

New to the RMH Network, Cessford is located within Special Area No. 2. The Special Area Rural Mental Health Committee plans to address the stigma associated with discussing mental health and mental illness to promote positive mental health. The committee will also share updated resources and information about available services. Lastly, with communities in the Special Area quite geographically distanced, social connections have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To target the feelings of isolation, the project will provide opportunities for community members to connect and socialize.

Impact/Outcome

The “Mental Health Street Guide” has been a valuable resource that we were able to adapt to our local area and print for distribution. The guides highlight that we have local supports available within the area. The community has begun to shift from a “not us” mentality to a “yes us too” mentality. People are supportive of the project but chose to participate in their own ways – engaged to participating from afar but not yet ready to participate in the conversation or activities.
