Remote, But Not Isolated: Building Community, Culture, and Connection in Fox Creek

Based on feedback from the community, Fox Creek is going to focus on different demographics that were seen as "forgotten" or "unusual suspects." Based on survey feedback, they have identified young adults, ethnic minority groups and the homeschool community as groups that have been left out. Using this feedback and from having discussions with these groups, Fox Creek has decided upon the projects below to highlight these groups, while also welcoming in the wider community.

The project activities will include:

  • Throwback Thursday event for young adults that will play on shared nostalgia, and encourage those in the throes of learning how to adult, starting families, etc. to get a chance to feel like kids again.
  • Art Around the World where members of different ethnic groups in town will get the chance to be experts in the community and teach part of their culture to others through art.
  • A homeschool family peer support group that will meet monthly throughout the grant term for learning opportunities, a space to share, and a space to connect and build community.
  • A Family Dance so families have the chance to connect within the family unit, as well as with other families in the community, making new connections, and strengthening existing connections.
