New Dawn will strive to discover and rediscover their Métis roots and own their identity by sharing, learning, and teaching about their Métis culture, heritage and identity with
their Métis community (District 12 of the Metis Nation of Alberta). Learning about their Métis culture is important because it helps their community develop a strong sense of identity, understand their values and beliefs and connects them with their community,
essentially giving them a deeper understanding of who they are and also allows them to appreciate their heritage and traditions while fostering a sense of belonging within their community.
They will rediscover their Métis culture by eating Métis foods, reading Métis author’s, participating in cultural teachings, visiting Métis historic sites and reconnecting with one’s community, listening to stories by Métis Elders, celebrating Métis art and music, making and wearing Métis clothing, learning and practicing Métis Cultural Medicine Teachings.
New Dawn will continue to further develop a legacy of cultural teachings to share and pass down for future generations, in the sharing of Métis culture, and revitalization of language and traditions. It is their hope to share and keep this traditional knowledge especially, intergenerationally and inclusively, as the wisdom of knowledge keepers is not only sacred but fleeting.
