This was the second year that the Animators of New Dawn Metis Women’s Society was successful in receiving a community grant. New Dawn Metis Women’s Society have 5 animators from 5 different communities; Dewberry, Cold Lake, Marwayne, Lloydminster, and Bonnyville, that are working together to strengthen community cohesion and engagement throughout Region 2 through the Rural Mental Health Project. By building on their first-year grant, the Animators are creating programming that brings together their regional community focusing on intergenerational sharing of knowledge, cultural awareness, and developing a lasting relationship.
From our Animators
“The Métis have always been a social people, some attribute this to the tribal strength of Cree foremothers and the “joie de vivre” (joy of life) of French-Canadian forefathers. Visiting is an important pastime and the Métis place a great emphasis on relationships - kinship and friendship.”
