In the community of Cardston, the Indigenous and non-Indigenous members rarely interact with each other, so their project focuses on creating connection points that bring all members of the community together to socialize, listen, and learn from one another. A social media awareness campaign kicked off this initiative with discussions around mental health engaging both demographics. They also planned community events like ice cream socials and community picnics to bring all members of the community together to begin to build meaningful, cross-cultural relationships.
Impact/Outcome
We are making strides to normalize the conversation around mental health and applicable mental health supports. The more we are talking about it, and supporting mental health as a normal topic, the more we are seeing people who are excited about not only receiving some supports, but engaging in a supportive role.
