This project will involve installing a second “Distancing Diamond” in Millet and hosting a community event. The Distancing Diamond comprises of a diamond-shaped cement area with benches at each point and a planter in the centre, allowing people to come together and socialize outside while still a safe distance apart. In addition to the Diamond, the project will involve bringing community members together for activities such as creating wellness packages focusing on mental health and painting rocks to place around the park.
Impact/Outcomes
Due to efficiencies in building the Distancing Diamonds, we also designed and purchased two thousand Mental Health Wallet Cards. These cards contain information about the Mental Health Continuum model and provided local information and resources about when and where to seek additional supports and services when needed. We have fostered a foundational mental health committee, called SMILES of Joy for Rural Mental Health, which is enthusiastic and energized about strengthening the domains of mental health in the community.
