This project aims to support and empower youth and young adults who are newcomers to Canada by providing various workshops and mentorship programs. The food hampers will offer culturally appropriate food for the families requesting them, with local food stores and restaurants donating these foods. Having cultural foods specific to each family can help bring a sense of home, helping in the journey of overcoming culture shock and supporting mental health. The workshops and mentorship programs will be led by community members and other community organizations.
Impact/Outcome
This team was able to develop relationships with local businesses and churches who have direct access to our target population, new immigrants to the community. These connections were vital in providing food hampers to these families and hosting a guest speaker to present information on health and wellness and self care.
